Description

A classic Italian dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream.


Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 16 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 2430 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until smooth.
  2. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water and whisk constantly until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold mascarpone into the egg mixture, then gently fold in the whipped cream.
  6. Mix coffee and liqueur in a shallow dish.
  7. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture briefly and layer in a dish.
  8. Spread half the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone.
  10. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality mascarpone for best results.
  • Do not oversoak the ladyfingers to prevent sogginess.
  • Chilling overnight enhances the flavors.
