A rich and gooey chocolate dessert with a cake-like top and a warm, fudgy center.
Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder, divided
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Mix flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour batter into a greased 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Combine remaining 3/4 cup sugar, brown sugar, and 1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder.
- Sprinkle mixture evenly over the batter.
- Pour hot water over the top but do not stir.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until the top is set.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Do not stir the water into the batter before baking.
- The cobbler will form a cake-like top with a molten chocolate layer beneath.
- Best served fresh.
