Description

This pulled pork sandwich recipe features tender, slow-cooked pork shoulder slathered in barbecue sauce and served on a soft bun with coleslaw.


Ingredients

  • 4 lbs pork shoulder
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Coleslaw (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
  4. Place the pork shoulder in a roasting pan and cover tightly with foil.
  5. Cook in the preheated oven for 6-8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 30 minutes before shredding.
  7. Once cooled slightly, shred the pork with two forks and mix in barbecue sauce.
  8. To serve, pile the pulled pork onto hamburger buns and top with coleslaw.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the pork shoulder in the spice rub overnight.
  • You can also cook the pork shoulder in a slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours.
  • Feel free to use your favorite barbecue sauce or make your own.
