Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup whipped cream
- Edible flowers for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the top, then add a layer of sliced strawberries.
- Top with the second cake layer and frost the top and sides with more whipped cream. Decorate with additional strawberries and edible flowers if desired.

Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add lemon zest to the batter.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
