Description
A delicious spread of easy-to-make dishes perfect for your Memorial Day celebration.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, firm variety — Granny Smith or Fuji
- 2 cups (400g) granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup (180ml) water
- 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract (optional)
- 6 wooden candy apple sticks
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
Instructions
- Set up your workspace: line a baking sheet with parchment paper and coat lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Have your sticked apples ready.
- Remove wax from apples by dipping them in boiling water for 5 seconds and then scrubbing them dry.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir just until moistened.
- Attach a candy thermometer to the pan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.
- Heat over medium-high until the mixture boils. Use a wet pastry brush to wipe down sugar crystals on the sides.
- Continue boiling without stirring until the thermometer reads 300°F (149°C).
- Remove from heat, stir in food coloring and optional cinnamon extract, and let bubbles settle.
- Dip each apple in the syrup, rotating to coat completely before placing on the prepared sheet.
- Allow to cool completely for at least 20 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Ensure syrup reaches 300°F for a hard shell.
- Wait 1-2 minutes after cooking for bubbles to settle before dipping.
- Store candy apples at room temperature, uncovered or loosely wrapped.
