Description
Learn to make a perfectly crispy and juicy whole chicken using your air fryer. This recipe ensures the skin is golden brown and the meat is tender and flavorful.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken (about 4–5 lbs)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 lemon, quartered
- Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme) for stuffing (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels to ensure crispy skin.
- In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, making sure to get under the skin where possible for maximum flavor.
- Stuff the cavity of the chicken with lemon quarters and fresh herbs if using.
- Place the chicken breast side down in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 30 minutes at 360°F (182°C).
- After 30 minutes, carefully flip the chicken over so it is breast side up.
- Cook for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
Notes
- For extra crispy skin, you can increase the temperature to 400°F (204°C) for the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- If your air fryer is smaller, you may need to use a smaller chicken or cook in batches.
- Feel free to customize the seasoning based on your preferences.
