- 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup milk (or cream for richer flavor)
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Place the sweet potato chunks in a large pot. Fill with water to cover the potatoes by about an inch.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium and let simmer until the sweet potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add the milk, butter, salt, pepper, and cinnamon (if using) to the sweet potatoes.
- Mash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. You can add brown sugar for sweetness if desired.
- Serve warm as a side dish.
