Description
A classic Irish shepherd’s pie made with ground meat and topped with creamy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and carrots. Cook until soft.
- Add ground meat and cook until browned.
- Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Add peas. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish.
- Spread mashed potatoes on top of the meat mixture.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use leftover mashed potatoes for this recipe.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like corn or green beans.
- For a creamier topping, mix in some cheese with the mashed potatoes.
