Instructions
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add chopped apples and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar (if using).
- Pour in water and bring to a simmer.
- Cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Mash apples lightly with a fork or blend for a smoother texture.
- Serve warm.
