Description
A classic green bean casserole made with fresh green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions. Perfect for holiday gatherings and family dinners.

- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot of boiling water, blanch the green beans for about 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, combine the blanched green beans and the soup mixture. Stir to combine thoroughly.
- Top the casserole with half of the crispy fried onions and, if using, the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until hot and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top. Return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until the onions are golden and crispy.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a healthier version, you can use low-fat cream of mushroom soup and reduced-fat milk.
- Feel free to add cooked bacon or mushrooms for extra flavor.
- This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
