A festive gingerbread Christmas tree that is fun to make and decorate.
Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- Royal icing for decoration
- Assorted candies for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and molasses to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until combined.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out tree shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm.
- Let cool completely before decorating.
- Decorate with royal icing and candies.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container.
- Make the dough a day ahead for easier handling.
- Use different candies for variety.
