Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually stir into the wet mixture.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
