Description
This French Toast Casserole is a delicious breakfast dish that is easy to prepare and perfect for feeding a crowd. It combines the classic flavors of French toast with a creamy custard and is baked until golden brown.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
- Fresh berries for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold to coat the bread evenly. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the custard.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Drizzle the maple syrup over the top of the casserole.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and top with fresh berries if desired.
Notes
- You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
- Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts for extra flavor.
