  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This French Toast Casserole is a delicious breakfast dish that is easy to prepare and perfect for feeding a crowd. It combines the classic flavors of French toast with a creamy custard and is baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
  • Fresh berries for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold to coat the bread evenly. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the custard.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  5. Drizzle the maple syrup over the top of the casserole.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and top with fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
  • Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts for extra flavor.
