Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the halved strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries begin to release their juices, about 5 minutes.
- If using cornstarch, mix it with the water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the saucepan and stir to combine.
- Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. The sauce can be served warm or chilled.
Notes
- For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture after cooking until desired consistency is reached.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
