Description
A classic Chicago-style deep dish pizza with a flaky crust and layers of cheese, sauce, and toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and cornmeal. Add the melted butter and yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out to fit a deep dish pizza pan. Press the dough into the pan, covering the bottom and sides.
- Layer mozzarella cheese on the bottom, followed by pepperoni, bell peppers, and any additional toppings.
- Pour pizza sauce over the toppings, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the toppings to your liking.
- For a vegetarian option, use vegetables like mushrooms, onions, and olives instead of meat.
