Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Dip onion rings in the flour mixture, then in the buttermilk, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  5. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add spices to the flour mixture.
