- 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
- Cooked basmati rice, for serving
- Naan, for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the chicken pieces to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder; stir well to coat the chicken.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Reduce the heat and stir in the heavy cream, cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the sauce is creamy and heated through.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Serve hot with basmati rice and naan, garnished with fresh cilantro.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add more chili powder or fresh chopped chilies.
- You can substitute chicken thighs with chicken breasts if preferred.
- This recipe can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
