- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 6 hot dogs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the milk, egg, and vegetable oil until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each piece of hot dog into the cornbread batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Carefully drop the battered hot dog pieces into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
