Ingredients

  • 6 cups stale bread, cubed
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the bread cubes in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the mixture over the bread and let it soak for 10 minutes.
  5. Fold in raisins if using.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until set and golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the caramel sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
  10. Slowly pour in heavy cream while stirring continuously.
  11. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  12. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the baked bread pudding before serving.
