Description
This hearty classic beef chili is packed with flavor and served with warm, fluffy cornbread for the perfect comforting meal.

- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1 medium Onion, diced
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 medium Bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) Canned diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) Tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 oz) Kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons Chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1 box Cornbread mix
- as needed Milk (for cornbread)
- 1 Egg (for cornbread)
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are soft.
- Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Preheat the oven according to cornbread package instructions. Prepare the cornbread batter by mixing the cornbread mix, milk, and egg.
- Pour the cornbread batter into a greased baking pan and bake according to package instructions.
- Serve the chili hot, topped with cornbread.
Notes
- Feel free to add additional spices such as cayenne pepper for extra heat.
- Top with shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions for added flavor.
