Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup strong black coffee (hot)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and decorate for Christmas.
