Description
A delicious twist on the classic chicken cordon bleu, this sandwich features crispy breaded chicken, savory ham, and melted cheese all piled high on your favorite sandwich bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of ham
- 4 sandwich rolls or bread of choice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- Lettuce and tomato for garnish (optional)
- Mayonnaise or mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness.
- Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Set up a breading station: one plate with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. You may need to do this in batches.
- Once cooked, place the fried chicken on a baking sheet. Top each piece with a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- To assemble the sandwiches, place the cheesy chicken on your sandwich rolls, adding lettuce, tomato, and any condiments you desire.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your chicken cordon bleu sandwich!
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in a mixture of garlic, herbs, and olive oil for a few hours before breading.
- Feel free to use different types of cheese like cheddar or provolone for a unique twist.
