Description

A comforting dish featuring tender chicken and fluffy dumplings in a rich, creamy broth. Perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 34 lbs), cut into pieces
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken pieces, chicken broth, water, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through. Remove the chicken and let it cool slightly before shredding it into bite-sized pieces.
  3. While the chicken cools, stir in the heavy cream to the broth and let it simmer on low heat.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the melted butter and milk until just combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering broth. Cover and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through.
  6. Add the shredded chicken back into the pot and stir gently to combine. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a bay leaf while simmering the chicken.
  • You can substitute leftover rotisserie chicken for quicker preparation.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like peas or corn for added texture and flavor.
