Ingredients

  • 8 oz Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 8 oz Emmental cheese, shredded
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons kirsch (cherry brandy)
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh bread cubes for dipping

Instructions

  1. Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the garlic halves.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the kirsch and set aside.
  3. Heat the wine and lemon juice in the pot over medium heat until warm.
  4. Add the shredded cheeses gradually, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and continue stirring until thickened.
  6. Season with black pepper.
  7. Serve with fresh bread cubes for dipping.
