Description

Capirotada is a traditional Mexican bread pudding made with layers of bread, cheese, and syrup.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups bolillo bread, cubed
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Monterey Jack or Queso Blanco)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook until sugar dissolves.
  3. Layer half of the bread cubes in a baking dish.
  4. Add half of the cheese, raisins, and nuts on top of the bread.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, cheese, raisins, and nuts.
  6. Pour the milk and sugar mixture over the layers.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.

  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Can be topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
