- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and both types of beans. Stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, then cover and reduce heat to low. Let it cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve hot, topped with cheese, sour cream, and green onions if desired.
