Bulgogi Beef: Perfectly Marinated in 30 Minutes or Less

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Bulgogi beef is a classic Korean dish made with marinated slices of beef, grilled or stir-fried to perfection. This easy recipe features a savory-sweet marinade that tenderizes the meat and infuses it with flavor, making it a favorite for Korean BBQ enthusiasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef ribeye or sirloin
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sliced vegetables (like bell peppers and carrots) for grilling (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper until combined.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Reserve the marinade for later.
  5. Grill or stir-fry the beef for about 3-4 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly caramelized. If using, add sliced vegetables to the grill for the last few minutes of cooking.
  6. Drizzle the reserved marinade over the cooked beef and let it simmer for a minute to thicken slightly.
  7. Serve the bulgogi beef over cooked rice, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra tenderness, freeze the beef for about 30 minutes before slicing.
  • You can also add sliced mushrooms or zucchini to the marinade for a veggie boost.
  • This dish pairs well with kimchi and other Korean side dishes.
