Description
A classic lasagna recipe with layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheese.

- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Drain excess fat.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese and egg.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer 4 noodles, half the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.
- Top with remaining noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 25 minutes.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage.
- For a vegetarian version, replace meat with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.
- Lasagna can be assembled ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
