This classic green bean casserole combines tender green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions for a delicious side dish perfect for any holiday meal.

- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions, divided
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot of boiling salted water, blanch the green beans for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir in 1 cup of the crispy fried onions.
- Add the blanched green beans to the soup mixture and stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a 2-quart casserole dish and spread evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- After baking, remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can sauté some chopped onions and garlic in butter before adding to the casserole mixture.
- Feel free to use frozen green beans if fresh ones are not available; just make sure they are thawed and drained.
