This classic green bean casserole combines tender green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions for a delicious side dish perfect for any holiday meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions, divided
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot of boiling salted water, blanch the green beans for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir in 1 cup of the crispy fried onions.
  4. Add the blanched green beans to the soup mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a 2-quart casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. After baking, remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can sauté some chopped onions and garlic in butter before adding to the casserole mixture.
  • Feel free to use frozen green beans if fresh ones are not available; just make sure they are thawed and drained.
