Description
A classic dish featuring tender beef liver sautéed with sweet onions, creating a savory and nutritious meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef liver, sliced
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk (optional, for soaking)
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- If desired, soak the beef liver in milk for 30 minutes to 1 hour to reduce bitterness. Drain and pat dry.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the beef liver slices and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the liver for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned on the outside but slightly pink on the inside. Do not overcook, as liver can become tough.
- Return the onions to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
- Liver can be a bit strong in flavor; soaking in milk helps to mellow it.
- For extra flavor, consider adding garlic or herbs while sautéing the onions.
