  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F) or preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the chicken thighs, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  4. If grilling, place the chicken thighs skin side down on the grill. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  5. Flip the chicken thighs and brush them generously with barbecue sauce. Continue to grill for another 10-15 minutes, basting with more sauce, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. If baking, place the chicken thighs skin side up in a baking dish and brush with barbecue sauce. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve with additional barbecue sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken thighs in the seasoning mixture and barbecue sauce for a few hours or overnight before cooking.
  • You can use boneless chicken thighs if preferred, just adjust the cooking time as they will cook faster.
