Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press half of the crumb mixture into the prepared pan to form the base.
  4. In another bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread this mixture over the base.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples to create the topping.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let cool before cutting into bars.
