- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3 medium apples, peeled and diced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press half of the crumb mixture into the prepared pan to form the base.
- In another bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread this mixture over the base.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples to create the topping.
- Bake for 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let cool before cutting into bars.
Notes
- Use cold butter for the best crumbly texture.
- You can substitute the apples with pears for a different flavor.
