Air Fryer Sweets: Perfect Candy Apples with a Crunchy Coating

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

These air fryer candy apples are the perfect treat for fall, combining the classic candy apple flavor with the convenience of an air fryer. Enjoy a sweet, crunchy coating with a hint of cinnamon, all made easily at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, firm variety (Granny Smith or Fuji recommended)
  • 2 cups granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract (optional)
  • 6 wooden candy apple sticks
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare your apples by removing any wax. Dip apples in boiling water for 5 seconds and scrub dry. Insert sticks firmly into the apples.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently until the sugar is moistened. Clip a candy thermometer to the pan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil without stirring. Wipe down any sugar crystals from the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush.
  4. Continue boiling until the candy thermometer reads between 300°F and 310°F, approximately 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat immediately.
  5. Stir in the gel food coloring and cinnamon extract, and let the bubbles settle for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Dip each apple into the syrup, coating evenly. Allow excess to drip off before placing on a non-stick surface to cool.
  7. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F. Place the cooled candy apples in the air fryer basket and cook for 5-7 minutes until slightly warm and the coating is glossy.

Notes

  • Ensure the syrup reaches 300°F for a hard crack coating.
  • Let the coating settle before dipping to avoid a bubbly texture.
  • Store candy apples at room temperature for best texture.
